Envirolution is a national network of individuals, organizations and businesses dedicated to advancing sustainability. We are a youth-based, youth-run organization started in 2006 by a trio of Yale graduates and a team of dedicated volunteers. Envirolution started out as a vision for a real estate company with humanitarian aims. One of our founders, Antuan, had the desire to start an organization that would make money and contribute positively to society. He and the other two founders, Alex and Tim, decided on a construction company with an environmental angle—a green building company in Lake Tahoe. However, as they researched for this company, they became aware of the much broader green wave that was sweeping America as well as a looming gap in the movement. They noticed that youth were not particularly interested in the environment. It was not cool or hip or fresh--instead, it was associated with those outside of the mainstream: those who seemed to think the only way to sustainability is to sacrifice all the gains made by modern society. Envirolution's co-founders looked around and saw that sustainability and the green movement could be branded--it could become cool, if only it were accessible and seen as an agent for positive change. Thus, Envirolution was born as an organization dedicated to bringing a new green awareness to America's youth, who are not receiving the appropriate education, training, and preparation for this emerging green economy and all the accompanying opportunities for sustainable progress. If America is ever to take a leading role in global sustainability, we believe leadership must come from tomorrow’s leaders: today’s youth, who have the most at stake in our future and an unrivaled energy and optimism.
